Things I am putting On Notice: colds, mucus, winter, pestilence.
After what seemed like forever, the Vicious Virus that plagued every member of my family (seriously, even the dog was sneezing) is finally gone. It flared up one last time over the weekend when I (an adult!) came down with an EAR INFECTION (seriously! I didn't even realize grown-ups got those ever), but I think we're all finally better and healthy and no longer leaking fluids from various head-holes.
But everywhere I turn (or...click, I guess), it seems like somebody else has a sick kid or sick kids or is sick themselves. And yeah, a cold is just a cold and it could so obviously be worse, and yet...as I learned over the past couple weeks, it really is a special sort of hell when your kids are sick and you're not feeling so hot yourself. You kind of...lose your grip on things, you know? After 24 hours of wiping noses and taking temperatures and fretting about lost nutrients, you just sometimes lose your mind a little bit.
(And by "you" I mean, ME MYSELF I AND ME. Please indulge me in a little projecting.)
A small sampling of the people-inside-the-computer virus (HA! Geddit?): Miss Zoot has two sick kids. Lena's daughter is sick. There's mother-and-daughter sickness over at Mid-Life Mama. And everybody at Drowning in Kids is struggling to get healthy and stress-free.
Anybody else? How you doing? Coping okay?

we have some puking over here. arrgh.

Avery has a urinary tract infection. geesh. 5 months old. so now the fun testing begins...
she is being a champ, though! On the plus side, now we know exactly when she needs a new diaper because the poor thing grunts when she pees now.

We just got over our round of colds, and now the children have the trouble-making energy of the recently paroled. It is almost worse than the sickness.

My Noah is a fountain of snot wrapped around a very unhappy and tired baby. How much do you hope you're sitting next to us on the plane tomorrow?
Here's a picture of the joy: http://lizawashere.com/2006/12/08/sick-boy-blog-commentary/
Yeah, that post is 2 weeks old. He got better and got sick again, such is the fun of day care.

Dude, grown up ear infections are in a whole other league. I had one when I was about 25 and couldn't believe the pain but still thought some peroxide in the ear would solve everything because, you know, who needs Drs with their fancy degrees and whatnot.
Cut to my eardrum BURSTING (yes, literally) and approximately a frillion dollars for amoxicillin and narcotics. Not fun! But on the upside, I haven't had an ear infection since then.

Yesterday Jojo vomited 7 times, but today...no regurgitated banana in sight.

Not only am I in throes of morning sickness, I am recovering from a nasty head cold that has knocked my nose senseless. Literally. My sense of smell is SO off right now, that everything smells horrid and I can't even tell when my 14 month old has a dirty diaper without lurking where no one wants to lurk. Bleh.
Of course, the kid got a touch of it, so now I get to scrape lovely Masks of Mucus from his face. Bonus!

Yeah, sick here too. First, my husband had it. Then I got it (for my birthday...wee!). Then, last night, my five month old started to cough. So off to the pediatrician's office we go. Hate the sick. HATE.

Omigosh - last time we got sick at this house? It evolved into a situation where I seriously considered using an altoid as a corking device:

Guess which orfice. Go ahead, I'll wait. It also involved my mother-in-law hearing me use the phrase, 'raincoat of love' when refering to condom use. Good times.

We're all in the throes of some combination of colds, stomach ailments and respiratory infections. I currently can't eat, breathe or use the bathroom without causing a chain reaction that threatens all humanity. Feels like it, anyway.

We have puke over here.

We had that lingering cough/cold here too. My older daughter is allergic to all manner of cold medicine so when she started to feel a cold coming on, I bought some of that Airborne and it seemed to help her a lot. Along with a hot cup of Sleepytime tea to help her sleep.

Yep, there's lots going around. We've had puking and coughing and such things. If I can get the house cleaned and everything wrapped before company comes, it will be a Christmas miracle.
Hope you're getting settled in your new digs. And glad everyone's feeling better.

Ear infections as an adult SUCK.
My 21-month-old has freaking pneumonia. I just mailed our Christmas cards today. I still have a ton of shopping to do but I think I'm doing to do it all during a marathon Tarjay run.
I'm glad you all are on the mend!

Fever and cough virus here. Poor daughter missed not one but TWO field trips (and you know those pre-break field trips are nothing but fun) and cried a fountain about it. Fortunately fever broke yesterday so they get to attend the last day of school before winter break. Yay!

Sick has evolved into Bad Sick. Turns out, baby has RSV and Bronchiolitis. Please send alcohol. Pray for my soul.

My daughter has a cold of the thick yellow snot gooped around her nostrils type, accompanied by coughing until she gags. I woke up yesterday feeling like a truck hit me head-on. THEN my husband smacked his head on the sharp edge of the molding in a doorway and put a gash in his forehead that needed to be surgically glued. Luckily, no stitches. Yeah, Merry Christmas.

There is really nothing like spending Christmas day sobbing for another woman's pain. Thank you!
Seriously though, I spent a lot of time at Karla's site the last two days, she has an amazing talent to capture her emotions in writing and I'm always amazed at the strenght that is within us.
